'Great Food' makes Taste Lounge a must-try on the culinary adventure of Georgetown

Annie Village Crab Legs - Served with two full season clusters with whole corn and sausage.

I know you've ridden by 2008 Highmarket Street where the bus stop is located in the complex building. There's also a hidden culinary treasure there, too.

Taste Lounge has been consistently turning out "great food' for years. But, did you know Owner Demerrio Greene prides himself on cooking with love - and making sure the food is right the first time?

First, let's remind you this is the same Taste Lounge that has just begun selling its famous Honey Jerk Sauce. You better grab yours because it truly is lip-smacking good.

And, from what I was told, it's not the last sauce you'll see. Stay tuned.

If you are looking for a chill place to dine and get your grub on, I recommend a stop here on your culinary adventure of Georgetown County.

Let's share with you some tempting dishes.
Picture

What you see above is called Annie Village Crab legs. This dish is one the most popular on the menu. It comes with two crab leg clusters, two cobs of corn and sausage. Get this, it's all drizzled in garlic butter. And, yes, I licked the crab legs. It's that good.

The butter has time to penetrate into the crab meat and gives it a flavor. Same for the sausage and corn. And it's a meal portion. You'll not be disappointed if your stomach is seeking to be filled up.
Picture

Some of the best fried shrimp in town. We only had a tasting while in house, but ordered three fried shrimp baskets to go. Now, these alone are mouth watering, but when you had the honey jerk sauce, oh.my.goodness.

Check out some more photos below and plan a visit Wednesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.

A Visit to Bearded Butcher

1/13/2019

Comments

Picture

We first wrote about Bearded Butcher in late October 2018. A visit has been in order, but figured it would be best to do so after the holidays. But, when we walked in, it was like the holidays never ended.

Plenty of people were checking out the offerings from Owner Jeremiah Holladay and his staff. And there's lots to check out, folks.

Holladay is striving to bring top, quality meats cut in-house and packaged professionally. More, he wants to bring back the old butcher-customer relationship.

Bearded Butcher serves a few restaurant owners in Georgetown County, but would like others to know he's here for them. It's becoming more frequent for customers to ask where their food comes from. So, when a diner asks where their steak came from, you couldn't ask for a better response than your local butcher.

The butchery is located at 408 South Fraser Street in Georgetown, S.C. Go by and tell'em we sent you.

Janette's Super Burger truly is 'Where Family and Friends Come to Dine'

Janette's Famous Double Cheeseburger stole the show!

If you drive down Indian Hut Road too fast in Georgetown, you'll miss it.

However, there is a lit sign pointing at the building from the road to help slow you down. And, yes, you should slow down, stop and eat at Janette's Super Burger!

For many years, this restaurant had been closed. But, due to demand and a willingness to serve the community, Janette's has been open since August of this year and is serving those famous super burgers she's known for.

The recipe has been passed down and staff are living up to the burger doctrine! We stopped in and decided to tackle the famous double cheeseburger.

Once inside, we were greeted with "Hello, ya'll! Come on in and have a seat. Take a menu and come up to order when ready!" It's one of those greetings that warms your soul and let's you know you're in for a treat. Then we read the menu...

"Where Family and Friends Come to Dine"

Once seeing that, and looking at the close-knit folks inside, we knew this was going to be great. Not only that, there were a few folks we knew, and were related to, who came in while we dined.

It's a small dine-in area. Only a few tables inside with a small little bar you can sit at and look out the window to watch people pull up. Do not let the thought of being  cramped deter you from a superb meal here!

The double cheeseburger lived up to the famous accolade, friends! Definitely a good one here!

Come by 1473 Indian Hut Road and enjoy some great food with great people! Call ahead at 843-833-8345 if you need a to-go order!

Chicken Parm Entree

Have you been down Church Street lately? There's a new restaurant in town and the tastes are going to be familiar with a lot of people!

If you know of Milardo's Pizzeria in Murrells Inlet, you're going to love Olives Tavern in the City of Georgetown? Why, you ask?

It's owned by the same folks! Ed and Lindsey Milardo have brought their fantastic food creations down our way, and to say thank you wouldn't be enough!

The pizza is so good. We enjoyed the small versions of the Buffalo Chicken and Meatlovers. Oh, and do not worry, you'll have plenty to eat. The small portion is enough for you take some home!

The Chicken Parm is right up there with the best. No doubt. The chicken and pasta were cooked well and the sauce was divine!

I could have bottled that marinara sauce and took it home!

Take a look below of what we had. You'll be here soon. Trust me!

Saturday Evening at Graham's on Front

Grambo's Shrimp & Grits

We were in the need of a break from all the hurricane aftermath and potential flooding concerns for out county. So, we decided to go to a restaurant and take photos of what we enjoyed. Hey, this culinary adventure also provides huge stress relieving points!

The recently opened Graham's Landing on Front was the place to be this Saturday evening. Even going around 5:30 p.m. wasn't early enough. The table tops were packed and there was a good wait for seating, however, the staff on hand saw to it you were taken care of. During the evening, as soon as tops were cleared, there were people to fill them in seconds.

Front Street in the City of Georgetown is on a culinary upswing. The current restaurant lineup really is impressive and the folks who operate them should be very proud of what they have to offer.

With that, there's no question why Graham Plummer and his family saw the opportunity to jump in.

Already known for Graham's Landing in Murrells Inlet, Plummer wanted to introduce the fine people in the city to his culinary renditions of tasteful dishes. From pulled pork to steaks to pizza - and yes, shrimp & grits, his plan was to welcome you to his table of food offerings.

For us, the table was filled quick with excellent dishes and there wasn't a frown - or empty mouth - in sight.

The photos will do the talking, but I suggest you try the Grambo's Lowcountry Stew and Grambo's Shrimp & Grits. The stew is tomato based, with chicken and andouille sausage served over rice and topped with blackened shrimp. There's a little heat to it, too. It really is satisfying to the pallet.

The shrimp and grits offering is a well portioned dish. Fresh shrimp and andouille sausage are plentiful with the cream, peppers and onions served over stone ground white cream cheese grits. Every spoonful melted in my mouth and the flavoring was succulent.

Service was awesome as multiple staff checked on each table.

Enjoy the photos below and tell'em we sent you.

Cajun Gumbo - Lunch Special

Got here around 11:30 a.m. and it's a good thing we did. It was filling up rapidly as soon as we seated. Great lunch specials were on the menu. One was the gumbo - with chicken, andouille sausage & rice - and it was awesome! Seasoned just right with just a little heat for your tastebuds.

The perennial champion was also available - Shrimp & Grits! Always a crowd pleaser. You cannot go wrong with the Seafood Platter. The portions leave you satisfied.

Enjoy the photos!

Sunday Lunch at Alfresco's Taqueria Y Cantina

Gorditas (Chicken, Steak, Pork)

Wanting some Mexican flavor today, we stopped in at Alfresco's Taqueria Y Cantina and we truly were served some authentic Mexican food!

Located at 816 Front Street, Jenny and her crew work tirelessly to provide a great dining experience. The building is small, however, there's outside dining to accommodate the overflow. And yes, today, there was overflow - even at 11 a.m.

The reason? Well, the food is just that good. Service is attentive and quick. It should be. Alfresco's standards follow through.

Meeting Jenny today was such a pleasure. She introduced herself to us and made sure our meal was great from beginning to end.

Oh, and they have glass-bottled Coke. Hard to find that in restaurants these days. Plus, an assortment of  Jarritos Mexican soft drinks. I chose the Mandarin flavor. My first time ever having Jarritos and I loved it.

The soft tacos come in a set of three. And we had one with chicken, one with steak and one with pork. They come loaded. Really are a mouthful.

The gorditas were ordered the same way. Both the tacos and gorditas had loads of flavor.  The chicken empanadas were excellently prepared and the rice and beans made the dish wonderful.

Above all, the fajitas nachos were awesome! Loaded with beef and chicken, green, red and yellow bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and drizzled with cheese! This stole the show.

Go see Jenny at Alfresco's Taqueria Y Cantina; located at 816 Front Street, and tell'em we sent you! Enjoy the photos below as much as we enjoyed the tastes.

Triple Deuce w/ added bacon and sausage links

As soon as you open the front you're greeted with a packed room, busy servers and a barista churning out flavored coffee orders. And this was on a Sunday. That's right, I'm at Coffee Break Cafe on 716 Front Street.

Meghan and Ron Rader never have a slow moment here. The excellent coffee and superb breakfast and lunch offerings are why! And as busy as it was, it seemed all the customers were just happy to be there.

What's great about Coffee Break Cafe is you have this out-of-town experience. The atmosphere, hustle & flow and smells took you to a place that'd be in the mountains. So, it's refreshing to know a place in town can take you to such a place without having to drive hundreds of miles.

The Triple Deuce, pictured above, is plentiful as is it good. A hearty breakfast to start the morning off just right. The freshly baked Cinnamon Rolls with cream cheese icing is a staple point. A crowd pleaser for sure.

And the South Island Omelet! Wow. You get what you pay for. And it's flavorful. Nothing greasy about it!

When Meghan is not in the kitchen helping Ron, she's greeting customers and making sure their experience is wonderful.

And, for that, she guarantees your stop on this culinary adventure of Georgetown, South Carolina, will be one to remember.

Wow. Whether it was the Harborside Chicken (pictured above) or the Giant Meatball, you were sure to be satisfied.

People still ask about Harborside Seafood and Italian. Does it it exist? Is it a myth?

Yes and no. The restaurant is real and the only myth here is a bad meal.

Owner and Chef Chris Mitchel is master in his craft. Tucked away on the harbor where Portofino's and Five Rivers Tavern called home, he's preparing tasteful dishes. The problem is many people still do not know he's there.

We hope this helps to fix that. Harborside is truly a restaurant that should be part of your culinary adventure of Georgetown County. Take a look at the dishes we enjoyed and go visit Harborside Seafood and Italian! They'd love to have you.
With over 35 years of experience Chef and owner Chris Mitchel has a love and passion for food like no other. Chef Chris has a very diverse background in the restaurant industry. Chef Chris is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY. After graduating he went on to being one of the youngest executive Chefs in NYC at the largest German restaurant Luchow's. He than owned Seafood, Italian restaurants  and Diners. Chef Chris truly loves making people happy through his dishes.

We are exploring a novel approach to financing it. Resisting the conventional option to take out a loan or a lease and give a lot of money to a big finance company.  Since our business is somewhat seasonal, the typical finance option with fixed monthly payments would put a strain on us during the slower months.

We have come up with the ultimate loyalty program for our dedicated patrons, a sweets 'Discount Club'. We are offering a full year of 50% discounts on all Sweeties’ products.  You will get a discount card when you purchase a $100 Sweeties Egift card for yourself through the end of June. You can then use the Egift card to shop at Sweeties getting the 50% discount.  The discount would apply anytime in store or by phone for mail order. You will continue to get the discount even after using up the gift card. The discount is for sweet treats for you and your family. The Egift purchase will be used to subsidize the cost of the machine.

Skip says it really is a win-win!  You still have your $100 in the gift card and now you get all your sweets 1/2 price for a year! Sweeties gets a new machine to make even more frozen treats.  Wow, you really do make out sweet! He envisions you and your family getting your ice cream and other sweet treats, then at the checkout you present the discount card to get yet another sweet treat, a 50% discount.

Sweeties currently offers Veterans, First Responders, and some affiliate discounts. This discount would out rank all other discounts. It will not apply to SC-CARES merchandise. It cannot be used to purchase product for resale.

This program will be available through June 2018. We will evaluate the success and demand for providing renewal options, we is certain there will be a need for other equipment purchases.

We need 250 customers to participate before the current machine gives out. Visit Sweeties for more info.
