I loved The Simpsons when I was growing up. I remember when my uncle took me to see the first full-length movie in theaters. I even had The Simpsons "Sings the Blues" album and played it nonstop.
So, when I heard there was a Kwik-E-Mart being opened at Myrtle Beach's Broadway at the Beach, my family and I just had to be part of the first wave to enjoy it! But first, take a look at the tour with simEx-Iwers Entertainment Senior Vice President Mark Cornell and WMBF News reporter Meredith Helline.
The interior is as realistic as a Kwik-E-Mart would be. The Heat Lamp Hot Dogs were really awesome. Cornell said they went through various tasting sessions with different hot dogs and buns to get the right combination. And, yes, it was the right combination. Plus, the toppings were great, too. All Heinz products. I chose honey mustard for my topping.
The Buzz Cola is here, in all its glory. So are the Squishers drinks. But the real show stopper was the Lard Lad Doughnuts - yes, Homer's iconic doughnut here in Myrtle Beach! You can buy regular size doughnuts or the large, 9-inch, 1.2 lb. doughnut! You'll have to see the photos below to believe it. My family wants to personally thank Cornell for all his hospitality Friday. We enjoyed our visit and recommend any fan of the show (going into its 30th season) to stop by and live the excitement of a replica from a show that is truly run at a professional level at Broadway at the Beach. For me, it awoke nostalgia. And I loved being a kid again - for just a few minutes. Graham's Landing on Front recently revealed their menu. If you didn't see it, check their Facebook page or look below! Looking forward to their grand opening! One Front Street business in Georgetown is giving an incentive to folks who pick up trash... and it's not just the bucket to do so. Coffee Break Cafe on 716 Front Street is giving people buckets to pick up trash along the beach, river, around town or just about anywhere you talk a walk or visit. Bring it back full and they'll reward you with a free Brewed Coffee, Iced Tea or Lemonade. Sweet idea. So, get cleaning, friends! It's all about the burgers! Georgetown County has plenty of great burgers to enjoy at many of our restaurants, however, one stood out. This month's - and the first - Simply Amazing Dish of the Month goes to the Carolina Burger at bisQit in Pawleys Island! Congratulations on receiving this award and we hope people come out to enjoy this great burger. The Carolina Burger comes with cheddar, chili dog sauce, Lowcountry slaw, onion and yellow mustard. This burger is customizable. I added an extra burger patty to it. If a burger is messy, it's simply amazing. This one fit the bill. The game is about to change... for the better! Georgetown Foodland is going to spotlight dishes enjoyed at a certain restaurant monthly. And they'll be "simply amazing" dishes! The Simply Amazing Dish of the Month award is a way to showcase a dish had at a restaurant on a monthly basis. The award will be given unannounced and at the end of the meal. A card with an inscription and a decal to display on the entrance door or front window will be given. Nothing changes in the respect of taking photos of all the dishes enjoyed. This is just a way to put one particular dish enjoyed on a pedistal for a month - and encourage others to try it, too! "I see so many chefs and owners on my culinary adventure of beautiful Georgetown. I enjoy supporting the restaurants of our town. So, after brainstorming - and a little comment from my wife to awaken some memories - I came up with this notion to help put some tasty dishes these chefs passionately work to create on the map. I hope this catapultes those dishes and gets others to see what I saw and tasted - a dish that was simply amazing." - Jamie Sanderson This is not a contest. Think of it as an award making its way to many of Georgetown's restaurants. One dish at a time.
The goal is to have people intrigued and engaged in Georgetown. To awaken the foodie spirits and have people join in the culinary adventure of our town. We have quite a few new restaurants opening early Fall. This is a great time to show them some support and build a local base before the slower months come. There are plenty of great dishes to enjoy at all our restaurants in town. We're going to find one that's simply amazing for each month! Get out and enjoy the culinary adventure of Georgetown, South Carolina! |
